Vocational Excellence Centre (VEC) – Thoraipakkam is a project of the Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), to empower underprivileged women and men, since 2018. They offer skill development courses free of cost with assured placements. The courses include tailoring and Aari work, sponsored by partner ‘Indian Terrain’.
On May 16, to showcase their talent, a tailoring and Aari design exhibition was conducted at their premises at Thoraipakkam. The exhibition, which aimed to encourage the graduating students to open their own start-ups, showcased more than 100 designs. The institute has trained more than 300 students in this batch in tailoring and 84 students in Aari embroidery. The graduating students were given sewing machines donated by the Rotary Club Of Madras Temple City and RCME for self-employment.
The course completion certificate was also distributed to all the graduating students, including those of Tally and Business Communication. Present at the occasion were RCME President Rtn.Babu Krishnamoorthy, Rtn.Muthu (incoming President), Rtn.Revathy Sanjeev – Secretary, and VEC- Vocational Director Rtn.S. Manoj Babu.
The GST-Tally Prime course is sponsored by Yennes Infotech Pvt. Ltd. Rtn.N.Saravanan – Managing Director along with Rtn. Saiseshan – Director, have organised 10 of these batches wherein 200 graduates have been trained by the Tally faculty – Zara Roshan. Eighty students have been placed by RCME at many companies.
College students are prepared for ‘Campus to Corporate’ by giving them a Business Communication skill development course, which is supported by Rtn. J.Balaraman – MD of Congruent Solutions. To date, 30 students have graduated from this course and have procured placement in many companies including Indigo Airlines.
“With these training efforts, which are almost equivalent to the population of a village, we aim to transform the lives of the underprivileged economically while also empowering them with a livelihood,” said a statement from RCME.
