In an innovative effort to combat plastic waste, FEfundinfo, on July 5, launched a striking 10-foot fish-shaped dustbin at the Schmidt Memorial, Elliot’s Beach. This initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aligning with the UN’s Environment Month theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
The launch, attended by Sumesh Soman, IFS, (Mission Director of TNSHORE), environmental advocate Hafiz Khan, and Vinod (CSR Program Coordinator – FEfundinfo), along with employee volunteers, was supported by the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, with execution by CommuniTree (a nature-positive movement focused on environmental restoration).
Sumesh Soman emphasised the urgent need for waste collection, urging, “Let us be the change!” Vinod highlighted the bin’s role as a visual reminder of waste’s harm, while Hafiz Khan stressed stopping plastic ingestion through seafood.
Named “FishnBin,” the installation stands 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide, made from over 300 kg of welded steel mesh with rust-resistant car-grade paint. Designed for plastic waste to be fed through its mouth and collected from a back gate, this project seamlessly blends art, functionality, and environmental awareness, encouraging beachgoers to act responsibly and sustainably.
