To reduce pollution during Diwali, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has issued an advisory. Firecrackers are permitted only from 6 AM to 7 AM and 7 PM to 8 PM.
In a press release, the TNPCB emphasizes the importance of protecting the environment and public health. It also issued the recommended Do’s and Don’ts for a safe and eco-friendly Deepavali:
Do’s:
- Use low-polluting, low-sound “green” crackers.
- Participate in community firecracking in designated areas with permission from local authorities or welfare associations.
Don’ts:
- Avoid using joined (series) firecrackers that produce excessive noise.
- Do not burst crackers in sensitive areas such as hospitals, schools, courts, and religious places.
- Stay clear of fire-prone areas and huts while celebrating.
The Tamil Nadu government encourages everyone to enjoy a safe, noiseless, and smoke-free Diwali with family, friends, and neighbours.
