G.Dhanapal from Lingam SilambamTraining School was honored with the prestigious ‘Silambam Semmal Virudhu’ by R.N. Ravi, the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu. The award was presented during the ‘Governor’s Think to Dare Series -15: Interaction with Gurus of Traditional Martial Arts,’ which took place on July 6 at Raj Bhavan, Chennai.
The event was held on July 6 at Raj Bhavan, Chennai, where the Gurus of various Martial Art forms were felicitated for their remarkable service and carrying out the rich legacy of martial arts forms to our younger and future generation of India.
Around 50 traditional martial arts Gurus and practitioners were felicitated by the Hon’ble Governor for their outstanding services to society. The youth and professionals mesmerised the audience with their splendid performances of Sword Fight, Man Kombu, Kuthuvarisai, and Silambam.
Dhanapal’s contribution to the field is remarkable, with over 45 years of teaching Silambam at the Lingam Silambam Training School. His academy trains over 500 students across several locations in Tamil Nadu, including Sholinganallur, Thiruporur, Perumbakkam, Kelambakkam, and Neyveli. The students actively participate in district, state, and national competitions, reflecting the academy’s commitment to excellence in martial arts.
