IIT Madras has introduced new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to meet evolving technological demands and nurture leadership in industry and academia. The institute also leads the way in inclusive education with special admission categories for excellence in sports and fine arts.

From the academic year 2025-26, the Fine Arts and Culture Excellence (FACE) admission offers two seats per programme—one female-only and one gender-neutral—in all B.Tech. and B.S. programmes. FACE applications will be processed through a dedicated portal: ugadmissions.iitm.ac.in/face.

The Sports Excellence Admission (SEA), launched in 2024-25, similarly allocates two seats per programme to students with outstanding achievements in sports, encouraging them to balance academics and athletic careers.

New Programmes:

  • B.S. in Chemistry: A 4-year course with an M.S. upgrade option, offering flexibility through minor degrees (e.g., Data Science), interdisciplinary projects, and research opportunities. Admission via the IISER Aptitude Test.
  • M.Tech. in Electric Vehicles: Focused on training for the rapidly evolving EV sector with industry-aligned courses, lab work, internships, and research. Admission via GATE.
  • B.Tech. in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM) and B.Tech. in Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME): These interdisciplinary programmes blend classical engineering with modern tools and AI. Students can upgrade to Dual Degrees via the Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) scheme.

Prof. Prathap Haridoss, Dean (Academic Courses), emphasised that these programmes are aligned with the aspirations of students and the needs of industry and research.
