Kotturpuram Residents Launch New Tree Park and Waste Collection Drive
Share on WhatsappShare on Facebook

A group of Kotturpuram residents, including Valli Alagappan, has embarked on a green initiative to establish a new tree park on a stretch of land along Ferry Road. With guidance from Shobha Menon of Nizhal, an organisation passionate about greening in the city, and support from Kotturpuram (Ward 170) Councillor K.R. Kathirmurugan, the first 25 rare tree saplings were planted on July 24.

This initial planting marks the beginning of a larger effort, with another 25 trees scheduled for next week, aiming to transform the entire area into a thriving tree park.

Complementing this ecological endeavour, the residents, backed by the Councillor and Urbaser, are also launching a waste collection drive. They plan to gather coconut shells, plastic water bottles, and empty medicine strips for donation to NGOs that foster livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
