Sabita Radhakrishna, Adyar based writer, social worker and activist, was recently conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in various fields, such as research and revival of languished textiles, mentoring weavers, working towards keeping handlooms alive, writing cookbooks, and devoting her time to work with the elders in the city. The award was focused on her work with arts and craft, and was conferred by the Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic. The club honoured four eminent women in Chennai for their outstanding work in their respective fields at a formal event.
The other women honoured were Brigadier Muthulaxmy -nurse with the Indian army, Jigsaya Giri – Kathak dancer and Gauri Mishra – ex-Naval officer who led a contingent in the Republic Day parade.
The function was held in grand style at the Hyatt Regency. Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic President Vanitha Srihari and Secretary Deepa Jammi said that it was a privilege to confer the awards on these four eminent women carefully selected by a discerning jury.
“I am so passionate about my work that I do not expect awards, for that is unimportant, but the respect and recognition that it carries is heartwarming. This came as a bolt from the blue and I am really privileged to receive this prestigious award from the Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic.” says Sabita Radhakrishna.
