Maintenance at Nemmeli Desalination Plant: water supply disruptions expected in areas around Chennai

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has announced a scheduled maintenance shutdown at the Nemmeli 110 MLD Desalination Plant from March 21 to March 26, 2025. As a result, water supply to several areas in South Chennai will be affected during this period.

Areas Affected & Dates of Water Disruptions

Zone 13 (Adyar) – March 21, 23, and 25

Affected Areas: Adyar, Besant Nagar and Parts of Thiruvanmiyur

Alternative Water Supply Arrangements

CMWSSB has advised residents to use water judiciously during the maintenance period. Those requiring additional water supply can avail tanker services through the “Dial for Water” facility available on the official CMWSSB website (https://cmwssb.tn.gov.in).

Residents can contact the Chennai Metro Water helpline for complaints and assistance or reach out via official social media channels.

CMWSSB has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to complete the maintenance work efficiently and restore normal water supply at the earliest.

    Water supply is already not regular in these areas. We did not receive water for the past 4 days. Every time they say shutdown at Nemmeli. I think Nemmeli is a failure project
