This resident from Thiruvanmiyur is a teacher and a student. A good functional role-model of both.
As he finished school, financial difficulties at home forced him to look for a job. However his family encouraged him to pursue higher studies while he still worked. After retiring in 2006, life gave him more time to pursue his passion and thus he went on to complete his M.A and M.Phil. He could not pursue his PhD, because the position of HOD for the Vaishnavism Department was vacant, so no students were enrolled. Then came the Covid epidemic. But Ramabadran was undeterred in his ambitious pursuit. Once these hurdles were crossed he pursued his passion with the support of his family. He was awarded a P.hD from Madras University on August 6, 2023. He is now 76 year young PhD.
The title of his thesis was ‘Srimad Rahasya Traya Saram Streekarana Baagam’. He presented his perceptions in a 250 pages thesis, on the book running to 2000 pages. He acknowledges the sincere efforts of his family who stood by him in his education and career. His wife was his editor and proofreader, herself being very proficient in Tamil literature.
Ramabadran is also a teaching faculty for BA and MA Vaishnavism at an Institute in Habibullah Road, run under the aegis of Sastra University. If you want to pursue studies, Age is not a factor, Passion to study is sufficient, says the student. Adyar Times wishes him success, and honours him on Teacher’s Day.
