NIEPMD observed the World Youth Skills Day on July 15 with a panel discussion on ‘Bridging the gap in Skills to Employment of Youth with Multiple Disabilities for 21st Century Jobs’ the discussion also involved brainstorming sessions with trainers, service providers and employers.

  • Create awareness among the employers about the potentials of youth with disabilities;
  • Empower youth with disabilities on the need for building themselves for competitive examinations;
  • Skilling and upskilling the youth with multiple disabilities;
  • Strengthening the parents on the need for livelihood programmes for youth with disabilities;
  • Bridging the gap between employers and youth with disabilities;

About 50 persons with disabilities, 50 parents and 50 stakeholders (skill training providers and employers) across Tamilnadu participated. The core subject was presented in two inspiring modules: Role and scope of Skilling the youth with disabilities for employability by the trainers and service providers; and the role of employer in acknowledging the employment of the youth with disabilities.

The executive officials from Ragas Dental College, V-Shesh, SRM University, Shell petrol pump, We Are Your Voice, NeoMotion, Zomato, Provider Skill Pvt Ltd, Aruvi Trust, V-Mart, Sarthak Educational Trust, Youth4Job, SDS Academy of Behavioural Sciences, Adhiparasakthi Annai Illam have fruitfully shared their experience and expertise in the panel sessions benefitting the cause.

Prof.Dr.Vasanthi Rajendran, HOD – Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Affairs, was the chief guest. G.Ravindranath Singh, Deputy Director, State Commissionerate for Welfare of the Differently Abled, Govt. of TN was guest of honour; Dr.P.Gnanakumar was the special guest, Dr.A.Amarnath, Deputy Registrar (Offg.), NIEPMD, Dr. Nachiketa Rout, Director NIEPMD, Dr.K.Balabaskar, Lecturer – NIEPMD, J.V.Subbaraman, RO-AIL – NIEPMD, Sangeetha – Psychologist with NCSCDA, J.Jayabaskaran, Manager – TNSC Bank and S.Shankar Subbaiah, ICT Consultant – NIEPMD participated.
