NIEPMD observed the White Cane Day on Oct.15, recognising the achievements of blind and visually impaired individuals and emphasising the significance of the white cane as a symbol of independence and mobility. This dedicated day aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by those who are blind or visually impaired.

The event commenced with an inauguration speech by P.Kamaraj, HOD, Department of Special Education, focusing on the rights of people with visual disabilities. B.Leelavathi, Lecturer, Department of Special Education, delivered the welcome address.

Shobana Thangam Sundar, President of Kovalam Panchayat, and Adhilakshmi Perumal, Vice President of Kovalam Panchayat were the chief guests of the event. HRD Trainees showcased a cultural program featuring dance, skits, and a flashmob, engaging the general public and highlighting the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals. 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from D. Stalin Arul Regan, expressing gratitude to the Department of Special Education staff, students, and attendees, successfully fostering awareness about White Cane Day.

Training program for AAI officials (5 comm NIEPMD AAI)

NIEPMD in association with Airport Authority of India (AAI), Chennai organised a Training Program on ‘Soft Skill Training on Handling of Persons with Disabilities’ on Oct.17. C.V.Deepak – Airport Director (AAI), inaugurated the training program in the presence of K.K.Shobhy – General Manager (OPS) (AAI), P.Kamaraj – Lecturer (Special Education) and Airport Authority officials.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
