Samskrita Bharati conducted a 1-day Samskrita Teacher’s Training workshop on Sept.10 at Yogalaya, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar. More than 50 volunteers from across Chennai participated and got trained as teachers for teaching Spoken Samskritam.

The institute also celebrated the International Samskritam Day on Aug.30. Volunteers and students celebrated the day by lighting lamps in the house, chanting Samskrita slokas/songs and participating in various other activities.

In the month of Aug, 10 free spoken Samskritam classes were conducted, where more than 80 people learnt to speak in Samskritam. More than 60 students who took part in these classes have registered in two courses:

  • Level 1 Prak Sopanam – 6 months intense coaching in spoken Samskritam with oral test only; 
  • Pravesha – A correspondence course in which the student can do self-study and learn Samskritam through Tamil/English medium.

Upcoming classes:

  • Sept.23: Weekend class for 5 weeks. Ph: 99400 09869.
  • Sept.20 – 29: At 3rd Main Road, Kasturba Nagar; every morning. From 11 am to 1 pm. Ph: 97177 92301.
  • Sept 19 to 28: At 3rd Crescent Park Road, Gandhi Nagar; every evening from 7.30 pm to 9 pm. Ph: 93800 09736.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
