The residents associations of Kasturba Nagar have penned a request to the chief minister, requesting the closure of the TASMAC shop (No.953, Ward 173) at Canal Road.
“The shop and its customers pose several difficulties for the residents. The inmates of several apartment buildings around are scared to even approach the street post 6 pm. This includes office goers who return from work. The Cancer Institute, Madhya Kailash temple, Kalvari Church and the Miyawaki forest are all the important centres around this shop. As perceived, no one from this area visits the shop. They are all from other parts of the city. We request the authorities to relocate this shop to some other place,” reads the letter.
This petition has been signed by three associations of this area: Kasturba Nagar Residents Association (KNRA), Residents of Kasturba Nagar Association (ROKA) and Adyar Kasturba Nagar South Residents Welfare Association.
The residents have been trying to have the shop removed for the past 4 years and representations for it were also submitted to the Ward Councillor as well as MLA J.M.H.Aassan Maulaana. It was expected that the shop would be part of the 500 TASMAC outlets that were closed in June, but the residents were let down, when it didn’t make the list. An appeal was also submitted to the Mayor at the ‘Makkalai Thedi Mayor’ programme conducted on July 5, specifically for Zone 13. The appeal was however closed as “resolved” by the GCC.
With this letter to the chief minister, the residents hope to see some ray of hope for the closure of the TASMAC.
I feel that the previous representation by all of us to the C.M. cell and our subsequent efforts taken with the G.M., Tasmac by meeting him at his office whether included in the present presentation is not indicated. This is my view.
