Samskrita Bharati conducts Balotsava 2023

Samskrita Bharati, Adyar, conducted Balotsava (various competitions in Samskritam) for children from schools around Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur, Besant Nagar, Indira Nagar etc., on Oct.29, at Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar, in a grand manner.

More than 300 students participated in the event, which featured 12 competitions for children from LKG to 12th standard. Some of the competitions were: Shishu Geetam (rhymes), Veshabhushanam (fancy dress), Vyakti Geetam (solo singing), Samoohika Geetam (group singing), Eka Patra Abhinaya (mono acting), Sambhashana Pradarshanam (conversation in Sanskrit), Roopakam (natakam), Rasa Prashna (quiz) etc. Rasa Prashna was a huge success where 12 teams from 10 schools participated. Each event had two judges who are experts in the field. More than 175 children won prizes in various events.

The special highlight was the participation by students from schools like KRMM (Gandhi Nagar), Besant Theosophical School (Kalakshetra) and Sudhananda Vidyalaya (Uthandi), where Samskritam is not taught, but the students performed well and won prizes as well.

More than 50 volunteers and 25 student volunteers helped in the event. The chief guests for the event were: R.Vishwakumar (Rtd.) – Vice President (Cognizant Technology Solutions), Satish Kumar – Principal (Vana Vani School) and T.Srinivasan – Managing Director (MEL Systems and Services Ltd. – Perungudi).

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
