Rev. Dr. Y. Sailas Gnanadoss, a respected figure in the Church of South India, was honoured on July 15 (Kamarajar’s birthday), which is celebrated as Education Development Day in Tamil Nadu. The tribute acknowledged Dr. Gnanadoss’s significant contributions to the community and education, mirroring Kamarajar’s legacy.

Currently the pastor at CSI Saint Thomas Tamil Church in Santhome, Dr. Gnanadoss has dedicated over 40 years to his ministry. His community efforts are wide-ranging, notably his environmental work, which includes planting over 50,000 trees in Chennai and Chengalpet districts. He has also been recognised with an award from former state minister Dr. H.V. Hande for his social work, including his dedication to people affected by leprosy.
As a resident of Thiruvanmiyur, Dr. Gnanadoss holds free medical camps every Saturday at Elliot’s Beach, offering checks for blood pressure, sugar, weight, and pulse, along with counselling. His wife, Edith Sailas, is also a distinguished educator and recipient of the Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher award, underscoring the family’s commitment to social and educational upliftment.
