Surana High Tech International School, Besant Nagar, celebrated its first Annual Sports Day on Feb.3. The morning was filled with enthusiasm and excitement. The students’ parents and grandparents were cordially invited to the event.
The event began with the student band welcoming the President of the school Kailash Mul Duggar, accompanied by the Secretary Anand Surana and the trustees, with the VIP Call drum roll and bigul.
The Mandala Yoga performed by the students of grades 1, 2 and 3 set the tone for the day. Students created dynamic circular sequences with flawless transitions. Next up was the captivating and thrilling display of Silambam by grade 7 students, followed by a demonstration by their sports teacher – a National gold medallist in Silambam.
There was a thrilling display of athleticism and sportsmanship with the Kindergarten, Primary and Middle school students participating in a great amalgamation of track and field events and some fun races. The zealous parents and grandparents constantly applauded the enthusiastic young sports stars.
Next, the parents displayed their agility, strength and stamina in various events, with great aplomb! Among the various events and competitions, the March Past ceremony held great significance symbolising unity and precision.
In her welcome address, Principal, Kiran Merchant, laid emphasis of sports in a child’s life and highlighted that physical education in a school should be more than just student participation in sports and games. Its purpose should be to develop a combination of transferrable skills, promote physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Schools should create specific opportunities for physical activities in a range of context.Prizes and mementoes were awarded to the students and the parents for their winning and participation spirit. Cheers of encouragement and appreciation resounded throughout the venue. We extend our gratitude to all the students, teachers, parents, and our special guests for making this event a grand success. Let’s eagerly anticipate next year’s event with the same zest and sportsmanship.
