The Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board has announced that all pet shops and dog breeding establishments in the state must register with the board by September 30, 2025. This move is in line with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Pet Shop) Rules, 2018, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules, 2017, as mandated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The board stated that while a few establishments have already complied, those that have not yet registered must do so immediately. The necessary application forms can be downloaded from the board’s official website.
The Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board has warned that legal action will be initiated against any establishment found operating without proper registration after October 1, 2025.
