The 20th edition of World Kidney Day was marked by a walkathon organised by TANKER Foundation and Mehta Hospital’s Pediatric Nephrology Department on Mar.23 at Elliots Beach, Besant Nagar.
World Kidney Day, a global initiative by the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations – World Kidney Alliance, raises awareness about kidney health. This year’s theme, ‘Are your Kidneys OK? Detect Early, Prevent Kidney Disease’, emphasised early detection and proactive care.
The walkathon was flagged off by Dr.K.Jayanth Murali (Retd. DGP and marathon runner) and actor-director Lakshmy Ramakrishnan, who highlighted the importance of exercise, hydration, and managing BP and diabetes for kidney health. Dr.Kalaivani (Mehta Hospitals) stressed early detection in children as kidney failure is rising.
More than 200 people participated in the event, with key attendees Latha Kumaraswami (Managing Trustee, TANKER Foundation) and Vasanthi Ravi (Admin Head, TANKER Foundation).
