THAMBRAS Besant Nagar celebrates Tamil New Year

THAMBRAS’s Besant Nagar unit held a function on Apr.5 to celebrate the Tamil New Year. During the event, Ravi Ramanathan, Director of Ramanathan Effective Public Speaking Institute, released the Tamil New Year ‘Viswavasu’ Panchangam. The first copy of the Panchangam was presented to K.Vishwakumar, Chief Electrical Engineer (Retd) of Southern Railway.

Pammal Raamakrishnan, State Coordinator of THAMBRAS, presided over the function. R.Raman, Secretary, and V.Suryanarayanan, President of the THAMBRAS Besant Nagar unit, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Rajesh, District President, was the guest of honour, while Vedic Scholar P.Janakiram of Rathnagiriswarar Veda Ghosti was a special invitee. Mala Shankar, Women’s Wing Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks.

In addition to the Panchangam release, the unit also made donations for the following causes: 

  • Educational assistance was provided to R.G.Mythili.
  • Veda Patasala, Sri Chandra Shekhara Prasada Gurukulam, Kovilambakkam.
  • Marriage assistance to M Lakshmi.
  • Varasiddhi Vinayakar Temple.
  • Financial assistance to the priest of the Pilliar temple next to Adyar Post Office.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
