TTK Hospital, Adyar, conducted various programmes on the event of International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking (June 26), throughout the city. The awareness programmes, conducted in collaboration with Tamilnadu Police, NGOs, college and school students and the public, was on the theme ‘People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention’.
Awareness programmes were conducted, on June 26, at Vidya Ratna PTS School (Sastri Nagar – Adyar), Chennai High School Vannia School (Teynampet) and A.M.Jain School (Meenambakkam), where children were warned about the ill-effects of addiction. A total of 670 students participated in the programme.
At Shenoy Nagar, on June 25, TTK Hospital put up stalls to create awareness about substance abuse and treatment options. Pamphlets and brochures were distributed to the participants. Nearly 100 people participated in the event.
TTK Hospital staff also visited the Juvenile Special Home at Chengalpattu, on June 26, to create awareness amongst juveniles. The counsellors explained about the ill effects of drugs and alcohol and encouraged them to come forward if they needed help in overcoming substance abuse. Thirty-five juveniles participated in the event.
