The Voluntary Health Services (VHS) Hospital and its Project Division, on July 21, launched a comprehensive ‘Youth 4 Action’ campaign in Neelankarai, focusing on the prevention of waterborne diseases ahead of the monsoon season. The inaugural event, held at the Corporation School, aims to combat the significant public health challenge posed by such illnesses in Chennai.

Operating under the theme ‘Unnal Mudiyum’ (You Can Do It), the initiative seeks to boost awareness, foster safe hygiene practices, and highlight the financial benefits of prevention among adolescents and adults. Chief guest K.L.Balaji, Secretary of MAC Charities and VHS MAC Nursing College, stressed youth engagement and distributed prizes to essay competition winners.

Dr. Joseph D. Williams, VHS Director of Projects & Hospitals, urged community groups to consistently promote hygiene and support Chennai Corporation’s efforts. The campaign will utilise a multi-pronged communication approach, including empowering youth as goodwill ambassadors, employing a ‘child-to-parent’ model, leveraging FM Radio, street plays, and social media to drive behavioural change and improve public health outcomes.
