The Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, hosted an engaging volunteer meeting on Apr.26, bringing together a passionate and diverse group of individuals committed to service.
N. L. Rajah, Senior Advocate & Chairman of the Institute, paid tribute to Dr. V. Shanta, celebrating her tireless work and vision for making quality cancer care accessible to all. He also honoured Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, Founder of the Institute and Avvai Home.
A central part of the program was volunteers sharing their motivations for service, with the “Why of the Service?” segment proving particularly moving. Volunteers from various backgrounds introduced themselves, with many citing personal caregiving experiences as their inspiration. Their stories reflected a shared sense of empathy, resilience and determination to support patients and families. Some volunteers, moved by the suffering of loved ones, have chosen to dedicate a part of their lives and time toward service. The event witnessed volunteers with over 20 years of service, as well as young professionals motivated to spread prevention and awareness of cancer.
Views and updates about the latest developments at the Institute were screened and explained as part of an informative session for the volunteers. In his address, N.L. Rajah emphasised the Institute’s commitment to eradicating cervical cancer, as well as its ongoing efforts in research and education. Dr. Kalpana, CEO & Director, addressed queries from volunteers on vaccination and other prevention-related topics. Meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chief Human Resource Officer, S.Ajitha, followed by a lively networking session, strengthening connections and building a more unified volunteer community.
