The 179th birth anniversary of Dr. Annie Besant, the renowned social reformer and freedom fighter who founded The Young Men’s Indian Association (YMIA) in 1914, was celebrated with a garland-laying ceremony on Oct.1.
Members of the YMIA gathered to pay tribute to Dr. Besant at her statue erected on Besant Road, Ice House, near Vivekananda Illam. A separate garland-laying ceremony was also held at her statue on Kamarajar Salai.
The event saw the attendance of several key functionaries, including R.Ramachandran (President), P.G. Satgurudas (Vice President), R.Rajaram and Shobana Ramesh (Hon. Joint Secretaries), and Chola Nachiyar Rajasekhar (President of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce and Governing Body Member), among others.
