All India Topper Aparna Shankar has aced the Diploma in Special Education, a 2-year program with 92.77%. The two-year program in Multiple Disabilities is run by The Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu (SPASTN) at Taramani and recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
Aparna shared her feelings of being extremely delighted when she received the All India Topper certificate and the gold medal from the top official of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJ&E) in the presence of her father, mother and her teacher at New Delhi. Aparna gushed, “My Coordinator Bhuvaneswari Raghavan and other lecturer’s dedication and hard work leaves an indelible mark on our journey to learning. The unwavering support of SPASTN mentors and my discipline in study routines perhaps helped me achieve.”
Aparna is an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer and teaches young dancers. She was able to juggle between her dance commitment and the academic rigour of the teacher education program. When RCI shifted to a centralised examination, to award under the National Board of Examination of Rehabilitation, SPASTN student Ms Vaishnavi was the first topper in 2016, Ms Nalini in 2018 and Aparna this year.
Bhuvaneswari, Course Coordinator, shared that the 2-year course in Special Education gives the candidates the eligibility to work as special educators in Kendriya Vidyalaya, CBSE schools, State Board schools and clinics in addition to writing the TET exam.
