Adyar Times Kolu Contest winners are:

Jayasri Ravi (Besant Nagar) through her kolu depicted stories from the life of Lord Krishna, rituals at Guruvayoor, Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Satcharitra, traditional games, etc.

Sundhya Ramanujam, Kasturba Nagar

Through her kolu, Srividhya Mahesh (Thiruvanmiyur) depicted many stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata through her theme ‘Saranagathi’. She also had a special feature on Droupadi’s saragathi story from Mahabharata.

The theme of Usha Mukund’s (Indira Nagar) kolu was ‘Nattupura padalgal’. The kolu showcased the various varieties of padalgal like Velaanmai padalgal, Thalattu padalgal, Kuzhanthai valarchi padalgal, Matra thozhil padalgal, Vilayattu padalgal, Kondatta padalgal, Nattupura padalgal from various states, etc.

Vaishnavi Arulmurugan (Indira Nagar) had kept a kolu displaying the achievements of ISRO, stories from Srimad Bhagavadham,  Mahabharata and Ramayana, Bramhothsavam at Thirupathi and Nava vidha bhakti.

Nandhini Arun (Besant Nagar), showcased many stories on the theme ‘Krishna Leela’. The highlights included Radha and Krishna on the swing and Vishwaroopam scenes that were created with traditional Gowri (Mysore) dolls.

The theme of R.Avanthika’s (Kamaraj Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur) was Lord Narasimha. She depicted Nava-Narasimha through models.

Banu Ravichandran (Thiruvanmiyur), through her kolu depicted various stories of Lord Muruga along with the models of the Arupadai Veedu.


Dr.Lavanya (Thiruvanmiyur) had kept the kolu depicting the stories of various rivers in India. She illustrated stories about the rivers Vaigai, Kaveri, Tamirabarani, Godavari, Krishna, Ganga and Yamuna.

The kolu of Mrs.Vatsala (Journalist Colony, Thiruvanmiyur) showcased through models the Chandrayaan, and other temples – Srimooshnam, Nithya Pushkarni, the five landforms of Tamilnadu etc.

Sumithra Sudersanam (Perungudi), through her kolu depicted the various lokas as according to the Hindu scriptures: Bhoo lokam, Bhuvar lokam, Suvar lokam, Jana lokam, Satya lokam etc. She also depicted a life-size doll of Lord Venkateshwara.

Priya Siddi’s (Perungudi) theme for this year was based on the goddess Sri Varahi. She made a special mandap for the goddess this year.

 The kolu by S.Dhanyashree (Thiruvanmiyur), showcased stories from Ramayana. The speciality was that the picture of Lord Hanuman was drawn by Dhanyashree herself.

M.Pavitra, Thiruvanmiyur, featured a goddess each day through her kolu.
