The Probus Club of Chennai, in collaboration with The Russian House, celebrated the International Day of the Elderly at the Russian Cultural Centre, Alwarpet. The event championed the importance of active and vibrant ageing, drawing over 100 senior citizens.
Probus President Probian M. Annadhurai welcomed the gathering, which was addressed by chief guest Dr. T. S. Sridhar, IAS (Retd), who highlighted the role of elders as pillars of wisdom.
The celebration featured a key awards ceremony:
- The Probus Award of Excellence was conferred upon Seva Ratna Dr. V. Santhanam for over five decades of exemplary community service.
- Probus Recognition Awards honoured Kalaimamani Ervadi S. Rathakrishnan, Kalaimamani Dr. D. K. S. Kalaivanan, and Probian K. Ranga Ramanujam.
Alexander Dodonov, Vice Consul and Director of the Russian House, attended as the guest of honour. The Club also honoured members reaching milestone ages (75, 80, 90) and those completing 50 years of marriage. Winners of the recent Senior Citizens’ Sports Competitions were also recognised.
The event concluded with the release of the Club’s 32nd Annual Book, ‘The Probus Way of Vibrant Ageing’.
