Vedant, a 12th-standard student, has created a unique YouTube-based initiative to help beginners appreciate and identify Carnatic music ragams. Titled ‘The Ragam Project’, the channel curates short medleys of multiple compositions within a single raga, offering a simple and accessible way for new learners to understand its nuances.
Vedant, who has been learning Carnatic music for over nine years under teachers like Dr. Sudha Raja, was motivated to share his knowledge and passion with the community. He realised that for novice students, recognising and distinguishing between different ragas can be a challenge. The project aims to make the genre more approachable and inspiring by presenting bite-sized, engaging content.
The Ragam Project also serves as a community platform, inviting other Carnatic music enthusiasts to contribute their own recordings, ideas, and renditions. Those interested in collaborating can send their submissions to [email protected].
The initiative hopes to inspire more young students to explore Carnatic music in fresh ways and to foster a deeper appreciation for Chennai’s rich musical heritage.
