CM Stalin inaugurates, lays foundation for ₹534.69 Crore Urban Development Projects across Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on May 29, inaugurated 49 completed projects worth ₹380.84 crores and laid foundation stones for 16 new projects valued at ₹93.09 crores. The projects span across various urban development sectors, including Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB), Directorate of Municipal Administration, Directorate of Town Panchayats, and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD). The Chief Minister also flagged off 50 new vehicles worth ₹19.44 crores for the Greater Chennai Corporation.

The projects were launched at a ceremony held at the Secretariat.

Projects inaugurated in and around the Adyar neighbourhood:
  • An indoor stadium, a women’s gym, and a cricket net practice facility in Adyar Zone (Thiruvalluvar Nagar, 7th Cross Street).
Foundation Stones Laid for Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) – 9 New Projects (₹59.60 Crores). Projects in the neighbourhood:
  • Three new bridges at a cost of 21.03 crores:
    • At Kottivakkam (connecting East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road across Buckingham Canal);
    • At Palavakkam (connecting ECR and OMR across Buckingham Canal) in Kamarajar Salai and Veeramany Salai
    • At Sholinganallur Thoraipakkam area, Pandian Street, Anna Nagar, (connecting ECR and OMR across Buckingham Canal).
  • At Adyar Zone, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, 7th Cross street, an indoor stadium for kabaddi and badminton, a gym exclusive for women, and a cricket pitch will be built at a cost of 1.47 crores. 
  • An administrative office building in Royapuram Zone (Adithanar Salai, Pudupettai).
  • A new commercial complex in Tiruottiyur Zone (Pattina Thar Salai).
  • Construction of school buildings in Kodambakkam Zone (Jafferkhanpet, Pillaiyar Koil Street Chennai Higher Secondary School), Thandaiyarpet Zone (Kannan Street – Puththa Street Chennai Middle School), and Perungudi Zone (Kuppam Beach Road Chennai Primary School).
  • Construction of a zonal office building in Madhavaram Zone (Vattankulam).
New Vehicles Flagged Off for GCC (₹19.44 Crores):
  • 6 CNG-powered water sprinklers.
  • 6 hydraulic machines for pruning dangerous trees.
  • 16 inspection vehicles for officials.
  • 4 mechanical road sweepers.
  • 4 educational tour buses for Chennai school students.
  • 12 small diesel-powered mechanical road sweepers.
  • 2 small battery-operated mechanical road sweepers.

The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin; Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru; Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu; Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya; Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, IAS; Principal Secretary for Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department Dr. T. Karthikeyan, IAS; Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation J. Kumaragurubaran, IAS; Managing Director of TWAD / Director of Town Panchayats (Additional Charge) Kiran Khurala, IAS; Director of Municipal Administration S. Sivaraju, IAS; Executive Director of CMWSSB G. Kavrav Kumar, IAS; and other senior government officials.
