‘CSIR Jigyasa Summer Camp’ conducted exclusively for school students

CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), organised a CSIR Jigyasa Summer Camp’ exclusively for the state government school students from July 24 – 26 at CSIR Campus, Taramani.

In the event, 39 students and 13 teachers from four Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai and Chengalpattu districts participated.

Dr.N.Anandavalli – Director of CSIR-SERC, Dr. S. Maheswaran – Senior Principal Scientist, Dr.J.Rajasankar – Chief Scientist, and E.Ashokkumar – Scientist addressed the inaugural session.

Dr.Anandavalli motivated the audience with her talk ‘Inspire from Nature; Protect it for Future’. She encouraged the students to be creative, and innovative, and to achieve success by way of dreaming big, fixing definite goals, preparing definite plans, working hard and acting with persistence. Few also explained some of the inventions inspired by nature.

The students and teachers visited various laboratories of CSIR-SERC, and the scientists of various laboratories demonstrated different experiments to the students. For the next two days, various events, such as laboratory visits, quiz programmes, hands-on experiments, and scientific demonstrations, were organised for the participants.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
