The Residents of Kasturba Nagar Association (ROKA) has voiced their concern on the illegal encroachment on private property and pedestrian pathway. The residents gave a representation to the various state authorities including the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation for action. Below is the extracts from the letter:

We, the residents of Triveni apartment in particular and the Residents of the Kasturba Nagar Association, would like to bring to your immediate attention, the rising concern by an illegal temple structure, which is not only encroaching into our private property, but also into the pedestrian pathway, thereby obstructing the walking space meant for the general public and causing mounting harassment to the residents staying in the locality.

The peepal and the neem tree that was initially there, has been over the years, gradually converted into a place of worship, which is now becoming a full-fledged temple. Having encroached into the space with illegal electrical connection and civil construction on our property with no permission, whatsoever, it is now even more appalling to find an illegal borewell dug on the platform designated for pedestrians, by the GCC.

One early morning, another platform was constructed right around the drainage systems recently built by the GCC, thereby obstructing the flow of water towards the drains. With the monsoon set in, residents are outraged by these atrocities by the group of people, who are taking undue advantage of the religious sentiments, to gain local strength and raise funds illegitimately.

We seek your immediate intervention and request the following remedial measures:

  • Inspect the site and remove all encroachment structures.
  • The illegal structures such as the deities, water sump, stilts, electrical fittings, also need to be dismantled.
  • Stop all activities such as food distribution on the road, cooking by the roadside, parking cars in front of our residence, playing loud music, ringing the bells all through the day, putting barricades on the road, diverting traffic during their poojas etc. with immediate effect.

We request you to kindly do the needful at the earliest.
