The Federation of Senior Citizen Associations of Tamil Nadu (FOSCATAN) and HelpAge India jointly celebrated the International Day of Older Persons at the Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram.
The event, attended by over 150 participants, was marked by a compelling address from Chief Guest Dr. A. Kaliyamurthy, former Superintendent of Police. Dr. Kaliyamurthy shared motivational insights on the lives of senior citizens and the current social scenario, receiving a warm reception from the captivated audience. A special highlight was the military salute given to the chief guest by Capt. V. Selvaraj.
Dr. K. R. Gangadharan (Heritage Foundation) spoke on the difficulties faced by seniors and possible solutions. Dr. N. Panchapakesan (Sai Sankara Matrimony) entertained the audience by interspersing his views with relevant old cinema songs. N. Chandran (Zone 12 Chairman) emphasised the respect owed to seniors for their knowledge and wisdom.
The function featured the Active Ageing Award, which was conferred upon T. R. Namasivayam, former Vice President of FOSCATAN, for his dedicated service of distributing newspapers every morning for the past 25 years.
The event was organised by V. Rama Rao, President of FOSCATAN, and S. Meenakshi Sundaram, with special appreciation extended to the office bearers of the host branch, Nanganallur.
