Free eye screening and awareness camp by ADF

Appayya Dikshita Foundation (ADF), Kottivakkam, organised free eye screening and awareness camp for the benefit of the underprivileged, to eradicate preventable blindness. This eye camp was held on June 13, in association with MN Eye hospital, at Amarabarathi Thirumana Mandapam, No.12, West Tank Street, Thiruvanmiyur.

V.Jayaraman, philanthropist and director of a Singapore based IT company, was the chief guest and inaugurated the eye camp. Guruprasad, ex-Bank of India officer, and N.Meenakshisundaram, former Syndicate Bank officer, were also present on the occasion.

Eye screening was done for 121 people. Twenty-five people were advised for cataract surgery, eight were advised for Lasik treatment, 12 were advised optics, and four were ready for free surgery and taken to Base hospital, Tondiarpet.

ADF also organised a similar eye camp at Global Engineering Industry, Kelambakkam on June 15. They are also scheduled to conduct a camp, on June 24, for the school children of Sree Venkataramana Primary School, Abhiramapuram.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
