IIT Madras Launches Two New B.Tech Programs in Cutting-Edge Technologies
IIT Madras, India’s top-ranked engineering institute, is introducing two new undergraduate programs for the academic year 2025-26:
B.Tech in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM) – Code: 412U
B.Tech in Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME) – Code: 412V
Each program will admit 40 students through JEE (Advanced) via the JoSAA 2025 counselling process. These innovative programs are offered by the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, known for its interdisciplinary excellence.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “These state-of-the-art programs will bridge the academia-industry gap and address emerging needs in Industry 5.0, health tech, and advanced manufacturing.”
Students can also upgrade to a five-year B.Tech + M.Tech Dual Degree via the Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) option.
Program Highlights
- Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM)
Combines classical engineering fundamentals with AI, machine learning, data science, and high-performance computing. Prepares students for digital engineering roles across aerospace, robotics, manufacturing, digital twin design, and sustainable energy. - Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME)
Equips students to build next-gen medical devices by integrating biomedical science with electrical and instrumentation engineering. Covers IoT, AI, and web-enabled health technologies. Ideal for careers in medical device design, AI-driven healthcare, and therapeutic innovation.
Prof. Sayan Gupta, Head of the Department, said, “These programs will train students in a systems-based approach, enabling them to tackle real-world challenges and become future-ready innovators.”
