Rotary donates Rs 5 lakhs for cataract surgery

Rotary Club of Chennai Thiruvanmiyur along with Women’s India Association (WIA) have initiated an Aari workshop for underprivileged women. 

“Creating beautiful designs with their own hands, 20 underprivileged women will be trained in traditional Aari embroidery,” said a statement from the club. As part of the workshop, the women will be guided by a master for 45 days and will be given hands-on training.

President of WIA, Padma Venkatraman, presided over the event as the chief guest, while Shobana Ravi Raman and women empowerment head Usha Sarogi inaugurated the event.

At another event, the club provided 35 chairs for children of Government elementary school, PUPS, Nilavoor, Yelagiri. The school caters to the children of the tribals in the area.
