State Level Coordinating Agency of Tamilnadu and TTK Hospital, Indira Nagar, Adyar, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, by conducting an awareness programme at Guru Nanak College (Velachery), Patrician College (Gandhi Nagar) and at Sastri Nagar 3rd Lane.

More than 250 people were addressed in the sessions that focused on the ills of drugs and the rehabilitation course provided at the hospital. The community session at Sastri Nagar had resident women and women from self-help groups in attendance. “Illicit liquor kills in a go, but what people think as good alcohol – brandy, whiskey, rum and vodka, are slow killers,” explained Ms Metilda, who conducted the session.

Addressing the women, she also explained that the process of rehabilitation is not a 40 or 50-day regime, nor can it be cured just with medicines. It is a life-long process and would also include counselling sessions, which are provided at the TTK Hospital. “Counselling is essential to make them come out of the mindset that they cannot live without alcohol,” she explained.

For more information, reach out to the hospital at 2491 2948. The hospital is at No.17, 4th Main Road, Indira Nagar, Adyar.
