The iconic Sri Varasiddhi Vinayakar temple in Besant Nagar, a landmark facing the Besant Nagar bus stand and near Elliot’s Beach, celebrated its 6th Kumbhabhishegam on July 7. The grand event drew a massive crowd from the Adyar neighbourhood, with many devotees visibly moved during the pouring of the holy water on the Kalasams.

With the foundation stone laid in 1977 and the first Kumbhabhishegam in 1979 (the last being in 2012), the temple was exquisitely decorated with supreme lighting for the occasion. Highlights included the newly redone ‘golden chariot’, a majestic sight for devotees.
