AMM School conducts Walkathon

The AMM Family Walkathon- 6 and signature campaign was held on Sept.23, commemorating the World Elders Day (Oct.1) with the theme ‘Be Healthy, Zero carbon, Donate Organs, Respect Elders and Go Green’. 

The chief guest Mr. Hanifa, National race-walker champion, flagged off the event from the school premises in the early hours, in the presence of Correspondent Meyyamai Venkatachalam, Ms.Lakshmi – Headmistress of SRM School (Ambattur), Ms.Mahalakshmi – Principal of AMM School, Mr.Dushyanthan – Vice Principal of AMM School, parents, grandparents and students.

Other schools that participated includes: TI School (Ambattur), SRM school (Guduvanchery), VCHS school (Thiruvottiyur) and Murugappa Polytechnic (Avadi). As early as 5.30 am about 1000 participants geared up for the Walkathon. The chief guest addressed the gathering after which he flagged off the day’s proceedings. 

On account of World Heart Day on Sept.29, Dr.Arun Kumar, Cardiologist – Apollo Hospital spoke on health and cardiological issues, and healthy food habits for adults and students.

There was a health screening camp by Apollo Health Centre (Perungudi), and Omayal Achi College of Nursing (Thiruvallur). A blood donation camp was also conducted by Cancer Institute along with an organ donation awareness campaign by Mohan Foundation.

Efforts to have a total ban on plastics in the campus was also launched with a ‘Go Green’ initiative in the institution. This event aimed to instil social consciousness on the importance of sustainable living and physically healthy citizens for the future.
