The Cherian Foundation hosted the 2nd edition of its flagship event, ‘Gift Hair, Gift Confidence’, at the Adyar Cancer Institute on Aug.8. The initiative, which provides free, high-quality wigs to patients, brought together donors and cancer patients in a celebration of compassion and community.
The event’s guest of honour was internationally-renowned lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho, a prominent figure in holistic cancer care. He emphasised that a wig is more than a small gesture; it can “restore dignity, hope, and the strength to keep moving forward” for chemotherapy patients.
The initiative was founded by George Cherian in 2014 in memory of his grandmother. The foundation made a public pledge in 2023 to distribute 10,000 wigs by 2033, and has already provided over 1,600 wigs across India through partnerships with 25 hospitals.
Valsa Benjamin Cherian, Director of The Cherian Foundation, praised purpose-driven partnerships and donor generosity in the initiative’s success. Campaign Head Sara Benjamin Cherian praised the “mission ambassadors” who turned the dream of 10,000 wigs into a reality. The foundation also announced a donation of 300 wigs to the Tata Group of Hospitals in September 2025.
