IIT Madras Throws Open Doors for ‘Institute Open House 2026’

IIT Madras is welcoming the public to its campus for the ‘Institute Open House 2026’ from Jan.2 to 4, 2026. The event, held as part of the ‘IIT Madras for All’ initiative, aims to provide a unique, first-hand experience of the IIT ecosystem and inspire the next generation of innovators.

The Open House is being held in association with Shaastra 2026, the annual technical festival. It is open to school and college students, teachers, researchers, industry professionals, and the general public.

  • Exhibits and Labs: Visitors will gain access to over 100 advanced research laboratories, including 4 National Research Centres and 11 Institute Research Centres.
  • Innovations Showcase: Around 80 exhibition stalls will feature student and faculty-led research projects, live demonstrations, and innovations across 18 academic departments.
  • Scale: Organisers expect over 95,000 registrants and 60,000 visitors, making it one of the institute’s largest public engagement initiatives.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, emphasised the event’s purpose: “Our Institute Open House is organised with the main aim for ‘anaivarukkum IITM, IIT Madras for all’. We welcome students from all the corners of the country, including rural and village schools and colleges, with the wish that those students will return as our own students in the future.”

The previous edition recorded a footfall of nearly 35,000 visitors, including participants from over 550 schools and 250 cities across India.

The last date to register for the Open House is Dec.5, 2025. Interested individuals can register through the link: https://shaastra.org/open-house. Updates are also available on the official WhatsApp channel.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
