KV IIT hosts workshop for teachers

A one day workshop on G20, NEP 2020 and Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) was organised by Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT, on June 8, as part of the Janbhagidari event celebration under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.

The workshop was inaugurated by D.Manivanan, Deputy Commissioner – Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (Chennai). In his keynote address he stressed on the dedicated contribution of teachers to give a strong foundation to students and encourage the students to ask questions, make them process the information and develop relevant skills, as envisaged by NEP 2020.

Principal Dr.M.Manickasamy welcomed all the dignitaries, eminent educationists, principals, teachers from KVS and other state department schools and parents for the workshop. He introduced the Principles of NEP 2020. The session on ‘Nipun Bharat’ was handled by R.Padmavathi, HM- KV IIT.

The session on ‘Effective Teaching’, by Prof.Edmana Prasad, Department of Chemistry IIT Madras, highlighted that learning is about retrieving. 

The activity session on how to teach language, based on NEP 2020, was demonstrated by Rinky Sharma, music teacher – KVIIT Chennai. She sang a song on how to teach hindi grammar through songs. Girija Maddela, music teacher – KV CLRI, melodiously sang and introduced fractions through a song.

Prof.Arun K.Tangirala of Department of Chemical Engineering IIT-M, took the session on digital initiatives for Academic Excellence in school. He introduced digital platforms like Swayam, Diksha, NPTEL, Swayam Prabha, NDLC, etc.

T.Kalyani, TGT English – KV IIT, highlighted that the aim of FLN is the need to write with understanding and read with comprehension independently. Bhuvan Babu, TGT (Art) from KV OCF Avadi, highlighted that FLN is the base for all teaching and learning and art-integrated teaching would make the learning more interesting.

The workshop concluded with the last session by B.Palaniammal, PRT KV Anna Nagar, on techniques to improve Reading and Handwriting. A total of 150 participants interacted enthusiastically.
