Now you can read books from palm leaves

Priya Darshan Enterprises, Thiruvanmiyur, has come up with a unique format of presenting the ancient Hindu sacred texts: Vishnu Sahasranamam (Tamil), Hanuman chalisa (Hindi) and Bhagavad Gita (English). The texts are presented on palm leaves – just like how they were originally written.

“Palm leaves were used as a medium of writing for thousands of years. Our ancestors used seasoned palm leaves as the medium for recording invaluable knowledge, for posterity. With the advent of technology, this tradition faded away, turning palm leaf manuscripts into relics of our rich cultural heritage,” explained Sudarshan Reddy, Founder of Priya Darshan Enterprises and a resident of Thiruvanmiyur.

Sudarshan wanted to revive this tradition, and so teamed up with Rajesh Kumar, Founder of Palm Leaf Innovations, to bring back the magic of the palm leaf manuscripts. The printing house of Palm Leaf Innovations has used special, eco-friendly paper that closely resembles the old palm leaves and printed on them. “Not only was the output exactly like palm leaves, but it also required no seasonal protection and care,” pointed out Sudarshan.

The texts were released on Aug.6 at the Gandhi Nagar club where U.Ve.Raguveera Battachariyar Swami was the chief guest. The first copy of Vishnu Sahastranamam was received by Dr. Sunder Subramaniam, Freedom Trust; First copy of Hanuman Chalisa was received by Subba Reddy (CEEBROS); First copy of Bhagavad Gita was received by architect Praveen Govind Rao.

The texts are available at Odyssey Adyar and Crossword stores pan India. Starting price is Rs.850. For more information, reach out to 80724 67293, 78454 67293.
