Pongal ushered in a jubilant atmosphere at Bala Vidya Mandir, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar, on Jan.11 and 12, casting a festive spell upon every individual. The campus came alive with vibrant kolams and ornate thoranams, lovingly stringed and hung by dedicated parents, as early as 7 am.

Musical notes echoed through the air from 7.30 am to 9 am, courtesy of talented students showcasing their prowess on the flute, mridangam and violin.

The aroma of sweet-pongal and aviyal wafted through the air as students enthusiastically contributed to the celebratory feast in the name of culinary competition. Adding to the cultural extravaganza, the little ones from the KGs took centre stage, their joyful dance accompanied by the captivating Thappattam performance by the Thirumurugan Kalaikuzhu Troupe from Virudhachalam. The troupe also mesmerised the audience with traditional arts like Mayilattam and Poikkal Kudhiraiattam. The little ones from the KGs delighted in a whimsical journey aboard the Mattuvandi ride.

Beyond the rhythmic beats and colourful displays, students engaged in a myriad of activities, from the spirited Uriyadi to the camaraderie of slow-cycle races. It was truly delightful to observe the artistic finesse displayed by the middle school girls as they crafted intricate rangoli designs for a spirited competition. Additionally, their creativity extended to a captivating hair-styling competition, where their talents in plaiting and hairstyling took centre stage.

The primary students showcased their talents in diverse cultural events, including oratorical prowess, soulful singing, and captivating dance performances. Pongal at Bala Vidya Mandir was not merely a celebration; it was a symphony of tradition, talent, and joyous unity.
