Mangayakarasi Mahlir Manram Celebrates Teachers’ Day with Tribute and Empowerment

Sastri Nagar’s Mangayakarasi Mahlir Manram marked Teachers’ Day with heartfelt celebrations, honouring six dedicated educators – Dhakshayani, Uma, Rajivi, Aarthi, Geetha and Neela. Each received a thoughtful gift from Club President Archana Ramasundaram, IPS, recognising their service and impact.

Special appreciation was extended to Neela, who recently conducted 10 days of free tailoring classes, empowering local women with valuable skills. The dresses stitched by the trainees were proudly exhibited during the event.

John Alex, Program Director of Equitas Trust, was invited as guest of honour, acknowledging Equitas Trust’s role in deputing Neela for the charitable initiative. He distributed certificates to the trainees and highlighted the growing participation of underprivileged women in microfinance, praising their commitment to repayment and self-improvement.


Rotary Club Celebrates Teachers’ Day at Arignar Anna School

The Rotary Community Corps of Bluewaves, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chennai Green City (RI District 3234), celebrated Teachers’ Day on Sept.4, at the Arignar Anna Higher Secondary School in Besant Nagar.

The event honoured all 28 teachers of the school with shields, recognising their contributions to the noble profession. V. Gopi, President of RCC Bluewaves and an alumnus of the school, shared fond memories of his time there, recalling the institution’s strength in the 1990s.

Rtn. S.N. Balasubramanian, Executive Secretary and Director, and Rtn. R. Balasubramanian, a member of the Rotary Club of Chennai Green City, also addressed the gathering. Alumni of the school were also honoured for their continued association with the institution. The teachers reaffirmed their commitment to providing holistic education to students, preparing them to become responsible citizens.


Sri Sankara School Celebrates Teachers’ Day

Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, celebrated Teachers’ Day on Sept.4. The event was a tribute to the school’s educators, featuring a group song, a graceful dance, and speeches by students Thanisha Sri and Magesh Kumar.

As part of the celebration, the teachers took an oath to rededicate themselves to the noble cause of education. They also enjoyed a cake sent by alumni, making the occasion a memorable one.

In a special recognition, the Lions Club honoured two teachers for their immense service: Annapoorani (English Department) and R.Vijayalakshmi (Librarian).


Simon Toppo, Head of Hindi Department at Besant Arundale Senior Secondary School, Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur, receives the SAARC International Honour and Doctorate in Kathmandu on Aug.24 – one of only two recipients from Chennai.

Sashikala Sriram, Assistant Director at Olcott Higher Secondary School, Besant Nagar, was honoured on Sept.5 by the Rotary Club of Chennai Mitra and by all our teachers of the school with an award for completing 10 years of free service at and contributing to increasing the standard of the school. 

P. Prema, Librarian at Hindu Senior Secondary School, was recently honoured with two prestigious awards: the Shrestha Acharya Award from Jai Gopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya on September 5, and the Best Teacher Award from Lions International District on September 7. A dedicated educator and resident of Indira Nagar, Prema is known for her passion for motivating young minds.


P. Muthupandi, Head of Physical Education at Chettinad Vidyashram, was recently honoured with the Best Teacher Award by the Lions International District. A dedicated educator and passionate promoter of sports and fitness, he is also a National Committee Member of CBSE Sports. He is a resident of Indira Nagar, Adyar.


Gayatri Krishnaveni Lakshmanan, a senior artist and resident of Venkateshwara Nagar, Kottivakkam, was honoured with the Dronacharya Award by Rotary District 3234 for Teacher’s Day, on Sept.6. The award recognises her excellence in Bharatanatyam.

    Alpha Diagnostics Labs, on Sep.4, conducted a free diagnosis camp on PCOD awareness celebrating Teacher’s Day, wherein 150 people participated.

    Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
