The Art of Giving – KV IIT Chennai 1979 batch reunion

The 1979 batch Alumni of KV IIT Chennai got back to their roots on Aug.4 to show their gratitude to the alma mater. Over 35 members from various parts of the globe gathered at the Vidyalaya and relieved their school days. 

The student’s council greeted them with special greeting cards and Rakhis. Principal Dr M Manickasamy welcomed them with a memento. The morning Assembly became a special one as it was hosted by them along with sharing their experiences in the Vidyalaya. They recalled how the Vidyalaya had played a pivotal role in their lives.

Dr.K.N.Satyanarayana, alumnus, who is the President and Director of Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati, while addressing the students, spoke on the importance of all subjects including languages. He highlighted how the NEP 2020 makes a greater reach and expressed his thoughts on lifelong learning opportunities and motivated students immensely.

After the assembly, the alumni visited the classes and interacted with the students of Class X and XII. KV IIT instils in the students the need to give back to the society.

The 1979 batch donated 50 new computers and chairs. Prof Pratap Haridoss, Chairman, VMC, KV IIT Chennai and D.Manivannan, Deputy Commissioner, KVS RO Chennai were present during the inauguration of the newly upgraded computer labs of the primary and secondary sections. This was followed by a cultural treat, wherein students enthralled the guests with their performances and one of the alumni presented a dance performance. 

The alumni felicitated the special invitees and their teachers, who joined for this occasion. They also had an interaction with other teachers over a zoom meeting. The day came to an end with a memorable photo session. The Vidyalaya thanked them for their kind gesture and their commendable contribution towards nation building.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
