K.R.Kathir Murugan, the Councillor of Ward 170, addressed the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) ward-level committee meeting held at the Ripon Building on Sept.29, raising several pressing civic concerns on behalf of his residents.
His intervention underscored the need for prompt administrative action to improve the quality of life in Ward 170. Key Issues Raised:
- Vambay Housing Delays: The member highlighted that 195 families in the Vambay housing scheme have yet to receive their promised new homes, despite a commitment made in September 2024.
- Park Maintenance: Several local parks are not being adequately maintained, impacting the recreational spaces available to residents.
- Drinking Water Crisis: A strong plea was made for a permanent solution to the severe drinking water problems consistently facing the ward.
- Flood Safety: He emphasised the critical need to immediately clear the Adyar River and Buckingham Canal to prevent potential flooding ahead of the rainy season.
- Stray Dog Management: Questions were raised regarding the implementation of microchipping for stray dogs as a measure to enhance public safety.
- E-Service Centre: The local e-service centre, which previously functioned effectively, has been non-operational for the past year, causing public inconvenience.
Infrastructure Hazard: Concerns were raised that trenches dug by the water and electricity boards are often left improperly closed, leading to frequent road collapses and public inconvenience.
