On World First Aid Day, ALERT, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) – Tamil Nadu branch, hosted an awareness program on First Aid and Emergency Response for students at IIT Madras. The initiative aims to create a new generation of first responders.
The event was inaugurated by Justice M. Jaichandran, Vice President and Chairman of IRCS – TN. He highlighted India’s Good Samaritan Law, which protects those who assist in medical emergencies. He encouraged students to get trained in disaster management to help their community during natural calamities.
V. M. Muralidharan, Chairman of ALERT, spoke about the organisation’s goal to train at least one person in every family in emergency care. He urged IIT Madras to become a role model by training all its students and staff in emergency response, ready to act during the critical ‘Golden Hour’.
Both Justice Jaichandran and Muralidharan thanked Dr. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, for enabling the program. The training was led by certified trainers from both ALERT and IRCS-TN. To date, ALERT has empowered over 4 lakh citizens with these life-saving skills.
