The Annette’s of the Rotary Club of Madras Downtown kicked off their year with their inaugural project, a ‘Go Plastic Free’ beach clean-up drive held on July 20 at Elliot’s Beach. Initiated by Annette’s Chairman Ann Savitha Krishnaraj and President P.D. Sriram, the event aimed to combat growing plastic pollution concerns.

A dynamic group of 20 young Annette’s, joined by enthusiastic Rotarians and Ann’s, meticulously collected plastic litter including bottles, wrappers, and microplastics. Within hours, they cleared a significant volume of waste, sending a powerful message about reducing plastic use.

The initiative received generous sponsorship from Rtn. Krishnaraj, Ann Moksha Ram Gopal, and Rtn. A. Sivasankaran. ‘Go Plastic Free’ is just the beginning; Annette’s plan to expand this into a year-long campaign focusing on waste segregation, upcycling, and community education, aiming for lasting environmental change.
