The Councillor of Ward 179, J.Kayalvizhi, conducted an Area Sabha Meeting on Apr.17 at the Corporation office premises at Thiruvanmiyur. Around 70 people from various areas of the ward attended and presented their issues.
Issues raised:
- Making Anna Street and Pillaiyar Kovil Street one-way;
- Traffic jams on the road because of the Urbaser Sumeet dustbin;
- Drainage issues through the ward;
- Metro Water supply issues throughout the ward;
- Some of the manholes are elevated above the road;
- Snake issues in Kalakshetra Colony;
- Composting of organic waste in the parks of Kalakshetra Colony;
- Garbage is disposed of around EB boxes in Kalakshetra Colony;
- Water stagnation at the junction of Beach Road and Tiger Varadachari Road;
- Stricter implementation of source segregation;
- Encroachment of roads by shopkeepers and long-time parking of vehicles by shop customers in residential areas;
- Eateries operating on the pavements, including cooking on the pavement, cause a hazard for pedestrians;
- Discolouration of Metro Water (blueish black) in Singaravelan Nagar and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar;
- Desilting of drains;
- Repair of existing SWDs that are broken;
- Police patrolling at Ashtalakshmi Gardens;
- High-mast light at Odaikuppam; proper roads and drainage system required, mosquito flogging to be done, discolouration of metro water, need for a bin to throw garbage and avoid littering;
- Flogging at fish market;
- Completion of the fish market at the earliest;
- Tree pruning in Kalakshetra Colony
- Levelling of playground on Muthulakshmi Road, Lakshmi Puram and repairing of play equipment.
- Proper maintenance of parks in Kalakshetra Colony
Residents appreciated the proactiveness of the Councillor and the immediate action taken on posting issues in the Ward’s WhatsApp group. The Councillor also stated that a meeting has been scheduled with the Managing Director of CMWSSB (Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board) and present the issues for a resolution. She added that a proposal for a pumping station in her ward has also been presented to CMWSSB.
