In a significant move to democratise artificial intelligence (AI) education, IIT Madras has expanded its ‘AI For All’ initiative to include school teachers nationwide. The announcement, made via a press release, highlights a new course titled ‘AI for Educators’, designed specifically for K-12 teachers.

Offered online through the SWAYAM Plus platform, the courses are a collaborative effort with the IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The initiative aims to equip educators with essential AI skills, regardless of their prior experience in coding or the field of AI. According to Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, this step is crucial for nation-building, as teachers are the primary agents of change in the education system.

The ‘AI for Educators’ course joins five existing offerings in subjects ranging from Physics to Cricket Analytics, which are also open to teachers. The courses are free of charge, with a nominal fee for those who wish to pursue certification. The curriculum, developed by experts, is aligned with the National Credit Framework and focuses on practical, hands-on learning.

The initiative is part of IIT Madras’s broader vision to make AI education accessible to a diverse audience, beyond traditional engineering students. The last date to register for these courses is October 10, 2025.
